FOLSOM, Calif. (AP) - A Northern California apartment complex where a falling staircase killed a tenant had a similar collapse a year ago and has been making repairs to other steps.
The Sacramento Bee says owners of The Legends at Willow Creek in Folsom filed permits in recent months for repairs and have shored up a staircase with wooden beams.
A 27-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon when steps connecting second- and third-floor landings collapsed. His name hasn't been released.
Larry Kamer, a spokesman for the building owners, says work to reinforce all the staircases was under way after a stairway collapsed about a year ago. Nobody was hurt in that accident.
However, the stairway that collapsed hadn't been reinforced yet.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
