PINECREST, Fla. (AP) - A service is being held at a South Florida temple this afternoon for journalist Steven Sotloff, who was beheaded in Syria by militants from the group Islamic State.

Sotloff went missing in August 2013 while writing about the Syrian civil war as a freelance journalist for several publications.

His beheading followed that of another American journalist, James Foley.

The public service for Sotloff will be held at Temple Beth Am in his hometown of Pinecrest, Florida.
