Fire crews quickly stopped the forward spread of a vegetation fire that burned about 60 acres near the site of Wednesday’s Mallard Fire, but are now working to knock down hot spots that have flared up inside the fire lines.

The Sprig Fire broke out in Millville around 1 p.m., east of where the Mallard Fire burned 75 acres and destroyed a home Wednesday evening.

Additionally, five to seven acres of the Mallard Fire have flared up off of Basspond Road Thursday afternoon. Structures are threatened, but none have been damaged at this time.

Crews reported the fire at 60 acres and 40 percent contained by 1:45 p.m.

No structures were threatened and no injuries have been reported.

A road closure is in place for Millville Plains Road, between Antlers Road and Sprig Way.
