Salmon spawning season is here, and that means Oroville’s Feather River Fish Hatchery fish ladder is now open.

The hatchery opened its gates to fish and the public Monday morning. Up to 30,000 salmon will make the trip from the ocean, under the golden gate bridge through the Sacramento River Delta and up the Feather River, where they can go no further.

The salmon then go through the fish ladder, where they are artificially spawned by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Millions of eggs will be harvested, and the new Chinook salmon will be kept at the fish hatchery until next April, when they will be released back into the Delta.
