The Feather River Fish Hatchery opened the fish ladder Monday, allowing salmon to begin their uphill, or, upstream, battle from the Oroville Dam to the hatchery tanks to lay their eggs.
Over the last two days people have come out in full force to get a look at the journey salmon embark on to reproduce.
On Monday when the fish ladder was opened the salmon were diverted from the barrier dam that had been holding them back, and directed down a large chute leading to the hatchery holding tanks.
Not all the salmon go into the ladder though, some remain in the river to spawn.
This year there have been concerns all summer that the water may be too warm and levels too low for the fish to survive, but hatchery workers say they are still waiting to see the effects of the drought on the salmon population.
The Fish Hatchery is located at 5 Table Mountain Blvd in Oroville and is open to visitors daily.
