First winter-like storm knocks out power to 10,000

A strong thunderstorm has blasted through Chico knocking down powerlines and trees, leaving more than 10,000 people without power for nearly three hours.

The storm produced very heavy rainfall, and frequent lightning strikes as well as dime-size hail.

Eaton Road and Godman Avenue saw several power poles knocked down, while lightning struck at Bryant and Filbert Avenues just after 4:30 p.m.

Pacific Gas and Electric reported that more than 10,000 customers in north Chico, all the way to Hamilton City were without power after the storm hit. Service went out at 4:26 p.m. and was restored by 7:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported.
