Firefighters making progress battling blaze near Weaverville

Firefighters made significant progress battling the Democrat Fire near Weaverville overnight.

The blaze, which broke out around 2 p.m. Tuesday has grown to 250 acres and is now 35 percent contained.

The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has ordered mandatory evacuations for the west side of Oregon Mountain down to Highway 299, while an advisory evacuation order is in place for Steiner Flat Road in Douglas City.

The Red Cross has established an evacuation shelter at the First Baptist Church 1261 S. Main Street in Weaverville.
