Chico fire crews have put out a vegetation fire along Big Chico Creek overnight Thursday that sent up a large plume of smoke just west of Chico State.
A caller reported the blaze at 3 a.m.
At least two fire engines responded to the scene.
It took crews a while to get to the blaze because of its remote location on the banks of Big Chico Creek between Warner Petroleum and Chico State's maintenance yard.
But once crews got there, it took them only about a half hour to put the blaze out.
An Amtrak train was delayed by about 40 minutes.
