A Berry Creek woman escaped unharmed but lost her two story home to a fire that kept Butte County Cal Fire Crews at the scene overnight, and much of the day Sunday.
It started at 9 p.m. Saturday night at a home on Simpson Ranch Road. It was difficult to access, and the structure was fully engulfed in flames when the first firefighters arrived on scene. Downed power lines delayed the fire fight as they posed a hazard to fire crews, who had to wait for PG and E to arrive and cut the electricity.
The home was a total loss and all that was left standing was the chimney. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby vegetation.
There is no estimate of damages, and the cause remains under investigation.
