Fire crews contain Chico vegetation fire, work to cool hotspots

Firefighters have contained a fire that broke out Wednesday afternoon in Chico.

Fire officials estimated that approximately 25 acres burned during the fire. Crews will remain on scene and put any hotspots they find on the scorched area.

Investigators believe the fire started behind a house on Summit Ridge Terrace and spread from there but the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.


Chico firefighters are working to contain a fire near homes along Summit Ridge Terrace in Chico.

So far two engine companies are on scene battling the blaze that is being fed by strong winds in the area.

Battalion chiefs on scene have requested a minimum of five more engines to help stop the fire from spreading north to the homes.

Currently, firefighters are estimating the fire to be approximately 11 acres and spreading.
