The City of Redding has won a federal grant that will allow SkyWest Airlines to bring regional jets to the Redding Municipal Airport.

Redding is one of 16 communities awarded funding from the Small Community Air Service Development Program. The $450,000 the city is set to receive will go towards helping SkyWest airlines replace its turboprop planes with regional jets, equipped to serve more passengers.

SkyWest currently offers three flights a day from the Redding Municipal Airport to the San Francisco International Airport.

SkyWest will be discontinuing their service to Chico in December because of poor performance in the market.

The Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP) is designed to help small communities address air service and airfare issues and this year benefits 16 communities in 14 states.
