The proposed Sites Reservoir in Colusa County may be facing another challenge. Republican lawmakers gathered yesterday to discuss funding in an $11 billion dollar water bond on the November ballot that could be in jeopardy.
Earlier this week, Governor Jerry Brown called for an updated "no frills" water bond for California. The new bond would drastically decrease the amount of money allocated for water storage. With less money, the Sites Reservoir may never materialize.
Lawmakers say that Sites will be the "fix" to keep California from going into a drought state of emergency. The proposed water storage project has been studied for more than 50 years.
Supporters hope that with a bipartisan agreement and enough votes in the legislature for storage, it can become a reality.
