Two men died Friday night after a head-on collision on Highway 70 in Oroville.
California Highway Patrol responded to a call around 8:55 p.m. Officers located a 1991 Nissan two-door blocking the westbound lane. The driver and passenger of the Nissan, Michael Buxon, 21, and Kenneth Cruise, 27, were found lying in the roadway in the vicinity of the Nissan. Both men were pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 2008 Ford F150, suffered lacerations in the accident and was transported to a local hospital. The driver, Josiah White, 36, was wearing a seatbelt and the Ford's airbags deployed.
Investigators said Buxon and Cruise were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the collision. The Nissan's seatbelts appeared to be modified and neither Buxon nor Cruise were wearing them.
