Two people are dead after a single vehicle car crash near Oroville. Speed appears to be a major factor in the collision. The accident happened on Highway 162, West of Wickman Road. The driver may have been going faster than 100-miles an hour before she crashed Saturday afternoon just before one.
Officers say she lost control, causing her car to become airborne several times before crashing into the embankment of a canal. According to the CHP, both the 18-year old driver from Yuba City and her 20-year old passenger from Eureka died at the scene.
Sgt. Al Sanders says all drivers should be careful driving in the area. "Especially on the roads we have here, the county tries to maintain them the best they can and Cal- Trans does a great job but as a driver you have to be responsible and prudent and not go above your head and stay the speed limit. If you have to drive below the limit because of weather, do it, it is worth it, in this case it would have been much better."
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
