The CHP is investigating a fatal accident along Interstate-5 in Tehama County Friday night.
A pedestrian walking along the freeway was hit multiple times by a number of different vehicles.
The details may be a bit graphic.
The man killed has been identified as 64-year-old Jay Ramos of Corning.
This all happened late Friday night but we just started receiving details from authorities early Monday morning.
According to the CHP, Ramos was walking along the center of I-5 just north of Gay Creek between Orland and Corning when, for unknown reasons, he crossed over into the northbound traffic lanes.
He was first hit by a Ford F-150 pickup, knocking him forward 15 feet into the fast lane.
Moments later, a Ford Expedition approaching Ramos did not see him.
The driver tried to swerve to avoid him at the last minute but in the process ended up hitting Ramos in the head, causing fatal injuries.
Ramos was hit by two more vehicles as he lay in the roadway.
We still don't know why Ramos was walking along the freeway.
The collision is still under investigation.
We'll continue to bring you more details as this story develops.
