The Marysville City Attorney who wrote a letter on behalf of convicted sex offender Jared Tomlinson has been fired.

The decision to oust City Attorney Brant Bordsen came shortly after the victim's mother got the chance to address the Marysville City Council. She told members that public servants should not be allowed to go to bat for convicted child molester Jared Tomlinson.

An investigation into the Marysville Police Department is ongoing after it was found that eight employees wrote letters seeking a more lenient sentence Tomlinson, including a Marysville detective sergeant who used official agency letterhead.

Tomlinson was hired as a Marysville reserve officer in 2007. He was arrested in 2013 for sexually molesting a child in the mid-2000s. Last month he was sentenced to 28 months in prison and ordered to pay the victim's family $11,750 in restitution.
