A home in Chico for those with mental illness is facing foreclosure after the previous director skipped out leaving the program without money to continue operating.
Stairways Programming is the last resort for about three dozen people who suffer from mental illnesses. The residents pay a flat fee for rent and food, but everything else is operated by coordinators.
One coordinator says the previous director left the program without funds and now they are looking for help from the public.
"He kind of moved out in the middle of the night and left us with absolutely nothing, no infrastructure, nothing that we thought we should have going forward. Insurance, licensing, nothing that was supposed to be in place."says Stairways Programming Coordinator Michael Madieros.
Madieros says one community member has provided help with bills and food, but they are still in need of help. He is trying to get an attorney and insurance so he can make Stairways Programming an official non-profit.
If you would like to help you can call Michael Madieros at (530) 893-4083 they have also set up a GoFundMe account for donations at www.GoFundMe.com/saveStairways
