An explosion at the Howard Johnson Inn at 2731 Bechelli Ln. in Redding was the result of a marijuana honey oil extraction lab a man was operating in his room.

At approximately 9:50 p.m. the Redding Police Department responded to the Howard Johnson Inn on a report of an explosion. They found an adult male standing outside a motel room who had severe burns all over his body. Officers did not find any other subjects inside the room. The man was identified as Daniel James Ogram, 28, of Redding.

An investigation revealed that Ogram was operating a marijuana honey oil extrication lab, and during the extrication process the lab blew up. The explosion caused major damage to the hotel room. Ogram was transported to Mercy Medical Center and then eventually flown out of the area to a burn center. He is in critical condition.

During the investigation officers learned that there were three juveniles and two other female adults present during the explosion, but they had fled before the police arrived. Anyone that may have information should call the Redding Police Department.

The Shasta Inter Agency Narcotics Task Force has taken over the investigation.
