KHSL has an exclusive interview with the girlfriend of the Red Bluff man accused of murdering his best friend with a knife.

Christopher Hougland is accused of murdering Sam Forseth on Thursday, June 27.

The stabbing happened on the 200 block of Pinon Way.

Hougland’s girlfriend did not want to be identified but did say she wanted to tell her side of the story.

Its’ unbelievable,” she said. “I know it’s not murder; it’s self defense.”

The girlfriend claims Forseth was in an emotional slump and that Hougland recently reached out to him.

“Sam was depressed,” she said. “We saw him few nights before at a pool hall and tried to raise his spirits.”

Now Hougland’s girlfriend is moving out of their house in an attempt to raise money for a private attorney.

“This is a good man that fought hard for our country,” she said. “(He) would give you the shirt off his back and would do anything for those around him.”
