Evacuation at Chico State after structure fire

Feb 1, 2016 3:44 PM

A fire prompted an evacuation at one of the Chico State buildings near Bidwell Mansion Monday morning.

Just before 10 a.m. smoke was reported at the Aymer J. Hamilton building.

Students in classrooms and the childcare center were evacuated.

Chico fire investigators tracked the smoke to a problem in an electrical box.

They had trouble accessing it though because it was in an attic in one of the classrooms.

The fire was eventually located and extinguished sometime before noon.

The damage was isolated to one classroom, however power is off throughout Hamilton Hall. The building will remain closed, so no classes, labs or meetings will take place today. Please go to the University home page, www.csuchico.edu, for an update on when the building will re-open.
