BRUSSELS (AP) - Diplomats say the European Union has decided on new sanctions against Russia over its actions in Ukraine.

Three diplomats in Brussels say the ambassadors of the 28-nation bloc agreed Thursday that the sanctions would take effect Friday following their publication in the EU's official journal.

They spoke told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity pending the official announcement.

The diplomats declined to provide details of the new economic measures, but said they will include previously announced measures to further curb access to European capital markets for Russian firms.

The EU had twice postponed the sanctions' adoption since last Friday to assess the impact of the cease-fire in eastern Ukraine. The diplomats said the sanctions can be reversed once the situation on the ground improves.
