Students and staff at Maywood Middle School in Corning received 400 pairs of shoes, and it was all free of charge.
Corning New Life Assembly Pastors J.R. And Linda Gonzales applied the school for the donation through an organization called Rural Compassion Convoy of Hope. The group helps rural communities and had an opportunity to supply shoes to a rural school. Maywood was selected out of applicants from around the country.
Six weeks ago a group of community leaders gathered at the school to size every child and staff member. The Gonzales' say there is always a need for shoes as they can get very expensive. The shoes were donated from an anonymous manufacturer and they are estimated to cost roughly $15,000.
