A rare respiratory illness that has sickened dozens of children across the country has been reported in California, health officials confirmed Thursday.
There are three confirmed cases in San Diego County, and another case in Ventura County, the California Department of Public Health said in a news release.
The children, who ranged in age from 2 to 13, were treated at Rady Children's Hospital and have released, health officials said.
Enterovirus D68 became a hot topic last month after several dozen children were hospitalized in Kansas City and Chicago.
Signs and symptoms include: Runny nose, sneezing, cough, body and muscle aches and sometimes fever. Severe symptoms include difficulty breathing, wheezing and worsening of asthma.
