Embattled police chief announces retirement

Red Bluff Police Chief Paul Nanfito has announced his retirement, Mayor Clay Parker confirmed Wednesday.

Nanfito who was placed on paid administrative leave last month, will remain as chief in that capacity until his retirement takes effect May 15.

Captain Kyle Sanders will continue to work as the interim police chief.

Nanfito has been under scrutiny since the Red Bluff Peace Officers Association delivered a vote of no confidence against him to the city council late last year. The letter they submitted alleged that Nanfito, since he took over, inflicted verbal and mental abuse on his officers.

Red Bluff City Manager Rick Crabtree said in a statement Wednesday afternoon, "The City of Red Bluff is grateful for Chief Nanfito's service and wishes him the best in his future endeavors."
