Elementary School Girl Nearly Kidnapped

The walk home from school was very frightening for one Thermalito student last week.

On Friday, a young girl from Sierra Avenue Elementary was the victim of an attempted kidnapping.

The incident happened somewhere near 14th St. around 3 p.m. That’s when the student was approached by four Hispanic males in a late model, light brown truck.

Once the student felt unsafe, she ran away and sought shelter.

In response, school officials sent out a message to parents explaining the situation.

“It really served as reminder for us to be vigilante and making sure our children are safe from their travels to and from school and around the neighborhood,” said Sierra Avenue Elementary principal Ed Gregorio.

The school will hold an assembly this Friday in an attempt to prepare students if a situation like this ever occurs again.
