DIAMOND SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) - El Dorado County authorities have detained a 49-year-old man in the shooting deaths of his mother and brother.

Lt. Tom Murdoch of the county Sheriff's Office told The Sacramento Bee the slayings happened Wednesday at a home near the town of Diamond Springs the mother shared with the suspect, Milo Wallace.

Murdoch says Wallace's brother had gone there earlier in the day to work on the property, which was the subject of an inheritance dispute within the family.

Murdoch says the brother's wife went to look for him when her husband did not return to his own home as expected and was greeted by her armed brother-in-law at the door.

She managed to escape and call 911.
