Officials say the Eiler Fire has destroyed eight homes and 20 outbuildings after nearly quadrupling in size over the weekend.
U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Linda Tiffin says the fire burning in and around Lassen National Forest near Burney had torched 36 square miles as of Sunday morning, up from 11 square miles a day earlier. The fire started Thursday and was not contained at all Sunday afternoon.
Mayers Memorial Hospital evacuated their 49-bed facility in Burney and moved patients to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, in case the flames get closer.
Evacuations orders remain in effect for the communities of Hat Creek, Cassel, Big Eddy Estates, and Johnson.
Residents living in the Burney area being advised to prepare to evacuate if the order is given, a Red Cross shelter has been set up at Fall River Mills High School.
Fire Officials say a new update will be available around 6:00 p.m.
