Eiler Fire 20 percent contained

UPDATE: Eiler Fire is at 31,085 acres and 35% contained. Bald fire is 39,926 acres and 68% contained, while the Day Fire is at 13,047 acres and 75% contained.

Firefighters continue to battle several wildfires burning in eastern Shasta County today.

The Eiler Fire in eastern Shasta County has consumed more than 28,000 acres since it was sparked by lightning Thursday evening, and as of Tuesday morning is 20 percent contained.

Evacuation orders remain in effect for the communities of Johnson Park, Cassel, Eddy Estates and Hat Creek Valley. An evacuation advisory remains in effect for Burney.

The fire has destroyed eight homes and the Fireside Restaurant in Hat Creek.

Red Cross evacuation centers have been set up at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro and Fall River High School is McArthur.

The Day Fire is also continuing to burn in the Lassen National Forest, just seven miles east of the Eiler Fire.

Fire officials are reporting Tuesday morning that the Day Fire has burned over 13,000 acres and is 65 percent contained.

Five cabins and one outbuilding have burned, but all evacuations and road closures were lifted Sunday evening.
