A Big Red storm was brewing Saturday night as the East Nicolaus football team attempted to do something no other Northern Section high school football team has ever done in history; win a state title.

The Spartans were able to do just that defeating Coronado 16-6 in the Division VI-AA final at Clairmont High School in San Diego.

East Nic's enrollment - 287 students. Coronado's - 1,200 students. Yea, you can go ahead and score one for the small schools!

QB Steven Brown accounted for two touchdowns - one on the ground, one through the air. Nolan Goyet hauled in the touchdown pass. And Eddie Herrera had a big game defensively, grabbing two interceptions.

East Nic (13-2) secured their 10th straight win, and more importantly a spot in history.

The school is already planning a parade for the Spartans.

Congratulations to East Nic and enjoy the highlights!!
