Early morning fire at North State Rendering

Just after 1:00 a.m. Cal Fire-Butte County responded to a fire that had broken out at North State Rendering.

According to a Cal Fire press release the fire occurred in several large plastic storage tanks and attached equipment used to generate power from by-products of the rendering process, but the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

Fire crews used specialized breathing equipment while responding to the plant fire and remained on the scene for several hours.

No injuries were reported and volunteer firefighters from Cherokee, Richvale and Gridley assisted Cal-Fire.
