An abandoned commercial building and known homeless encampment went up in flames this morning in Chico. Fire investigators say the blaze was intentional. There were no reported injuries.
The fire occurred at 365 East 20th street at about 4:30am this morning, in a structure that has been abandoned for years, but previously housed a toothpaste tube manufacturer.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, there were 20 foot flames bursting through the windows. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze and are currently mopping up the area. Five engines and one aerial ladder from both Chico Fire and Cal Fire were on the scene.
East 20th street is currently closed as Fire Investigators assess the damage.
