Two people died after a crash in an Anderson Sunday evening, and authorities suspect alcohol was a contributing factor.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. near the 5900 block of Missouri Lane in Anderson, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office said.

Passengers Andrew Thetford, 18, of Redding, and Daniel Gomesbarba, 26, of Burney, were killed.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and say it appears as though speed and alcohol were factors in the collision. The driver, Anthony Wilson, 33, of Anderson was assisted out of the car by witnesses, and then fled the scene. Witnesses followed Wilson to a home on Spring Gulch Road where he was arrested when authorities arrived.

Wilson was arrested on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death, and two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
