A set of thunderstorms tracking towards the North State is expected to produce dry lightning, raising wildfire danger.

Forecasters say Monsoonal moisture will reach into the North State, bringing a chance of mountain thunderstorms through next week. The lightning created by this event will initially occur without precipitation, greatly increasing the chances of new wildfires.

The forecast has prompted Cal Fire to increase staffing. Additional fire crews and bulldozers will be available 24 hours a day, and extra employees have been placed in emergency command centers.

Fire officials are reminding people to do any mowing or weed eating before 10 a.m., and never in dry or windy conditions, and to ensure that all campfires are permitted and fully extinguished.
