Driver killed in Highway 99w crash in Tehama County

A man dies after his vehicle collides with big rig early Tuesday morning in Tehama County.

The fatal crash was reported at 5:05 a.m. on Highway 99w on Sunbright Ave. near Red Bluff.

According to California Highway Patrol, the driver of the big rig was making a U-turn on the highway, when the freightliner became jacked-knifed blocking the road.

The male driver of the 2001 Buick was traveling northbound on Highway 99w, when he failed to see the big rig in front of him, crashing into the side of the semi.

Officers say the driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the big rig was not injured in the crash.

Highway 99w was closed for about 2 hours, it re-opened just after 8:00 a.m. this morning.

The name of the driver of the Buick has not been released.
