Driver killed after slamming into tree near Anderson

The California Highway Patrol has cleared the scene of a fatal accident east of Anderson. The crash happened about 3:40pm Monday on Gover Road, next to the Sacramento River. According to the CHP the driver of a gold Jeep Cherokee left the road for an unknown reason and slammed into a tree.

The man has not been positively identified, but is believed to be an elderly man from Palo Cedro.
CHP Sgt. Greg Ross told Action News Now there were no signs the man had tried to apply the brakes or used evasive action, suggesting he may have suffered a medical ailment. Sgt. Ross said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash.
