An Oak Run man is in surgery today after suffering major injuries in a head-on collision on SR 299 at Cascade Meadows on Saturday. According to the CHP Collision report, 44-year-old David Cabrera was driving his red Toyota Corolla west of SR 299 approaching Cascade Meadows at an unknown speed. At the same time, 49-year-old Steven Sabatino of Bella Vista was traveling east on SR 299 in his 2010 Jetta at approximately 55 mph. For an unknown reason, Cabrera’s vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines into the eastbound lanes and directly into the path of Sabatino’s Jetta, according to the report.
Both vehicles reportedly struck head on causing the Jetta to overturn, and both vehicles sustained major damage. Cabrera was trapped in his vehicle and needed to be extricated by emergency personnel. Sabatino sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of cuts and scrapes. Cabrera was transported by REACH life flight to Mercy Medical center as well, suffering a left leg fracture and other major injuries. As of 9:45 a.m. this morning Cabrera was in surgery. Sabatino is currently listed in fair condition.
At this point of the investigation, alcohol was not a factor in this collision, but the accident is still under investigation.
