One of the drivers in a Palo Cedro crash that left two dead last Friday had a blood alcohol level three times the legal limit, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.
Officials said 24-year-old James York, of Redding, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.24 when he crossed onto the wrong side of Highway 44 and hit 66-year-old Palo Cedro resident Mercedes Avelar’s CRV head-on.
York was transported to Mercy Medical Center with life threatening injuries and later died. Avelar was declared dead on scene.
