Vittles restaurant in Anderson suffered major exterior damage after a 1998 black Volkswagen Jetta crashed into its side.

Anderson Police were called to the 2300 block of North St. in Anderson just after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. Officers located a black, 1998 Volkswagen Jetta in the parking lot. Officers located just north of the vehicle, a large hole in the stucco of the building, which was a result of the collision. The driver of the vehicle, 40-year-old Anderson resident, Emily McGarity, was located in the driver’s seat.

McGarity was un-injured as a result of the collision, and showed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. McGarity failed a series of field sobriety tests and was arrested for D.U.I.

Witnesses said McGarity was driving in excess of 90 mph on Interstate 5 prior to the collision. She exited the southbound I-5 off-ramp onto North Street, where she failed to stop for the posted stop sign. McGarity continued south across five lanes of eastbound and westbound traffic, before colliding with the restaurant. Officers found over 100 feet of skid marks at the scene, starting from the off ramp and continuing to the restaurant, crossing five lanes of traffic.

No other drivers were injured in the crash, and there was no other vehicles or buildings damaged.
