SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Dozens of flights have been canceled and delayed at San Francisco International Airport because of a possibly historic blizzard that is set to rip across the East Coast.

KNTV reports Friday that 59 flights were canceled at SFO, and the average flight delay Friday morning was more than three hours. One flight to Los Angeles was also canceled out of Oakland International Airport.

Most of the nixed flights were to the snow-socked cities of Washington, D.C., Philadelphia and Newark, New Jersey. Airport officials urged passengers to call their airlines before heading out.

Throughout the country, more than 2,300 flights on Friday had been canceled already and 2,600 are delayed, the station reports. Another 2,300 flights have been canceled for Saturday, including all flights into and out of Philadelphia International Airport.
