Many say the graffiti found on the downtown Chico amphitheater is more than just your normal vandalism.
Written in bright colors across the stage--and listing different cities from across the country like Asheville, North Carolina and Louisville, Kentucky--some see this as a tagging travel log of a homeless person. Which brings to light a recent and pressing issue: more out-of-town transients seeking Chico as their destination.
Jennifer Bracewell has lived on the streets of Chico for the past two years and said there’s a lot more transients coming to Chico lately.
“There’s probably at least 20 new people that have rolled in the last week that are homeless ,” she said.
And with and summertime just around the corner, Bracewell believes the North State sunshine will only attract more homeless people.
“A lot of people come here because of the weather,” she said. “A lot of people come from Oregon, come here from Washington from all the rain.
“I love downtown Chico and I think the more problems we have down here causes more problems for the downtown community,” Bracewell added. “It’s like a war between the homeless and the business owners and it shouldn’t be. We should all get along and be peaceful.”
