Michael Leslie Dollar, a 25-year-old Bangor man, is due to be arraigned in a Butte County Superior Court 3 p.m. this afternoon after he was arrested last week in connection to the death of his 16-month-old son in November of 2010 in Oroville.
Dollar was arrested June 13 in Bangor on a warrant issued by the Superior Court after an extensive investigation by the Oroville Police Department, according to the press release.
The incident occurred on November 11, 2010 when police were called to Oroville Hospital concerning 16 month-old Deagan Jackson who had been brought in by Dollar with severe head trauma. The infant was transported to UC Davis Hospital where he was pronounced dead the following morning. According to the release, the infant’s skull was fractured in five places.
Dollar reportedly told police the infant had been playing in a bedroom with his2-year-old half-brother and believed the boy had possibly fallen out of his bed. An autopsy determined the infant’s was caused by blunt force trauma.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey told Action News today the reason it took so long to make an arrest was because the investigation required acquiring and analyzing the expertise necessary to determine whether the trauma sustained by infant matched what Dollar told investigators. After receiving this expert analysis, it was determined the force sustained by the infant would require more than a fall from a bed.
Dollar is currently in Butte County Jail on a $1 million bail, and faces a possible sentence of 25 years to life.
