Treacherous conditions have forced Tehama County divers to delay their efforts in the search for a missing swimmer, presumed drowned, near the Woodson Bridge.
According to Tehama County Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported that a man wearing red shorts, in his late teens, was trying to cross the Sacramento River at Woodson Bridge Park, east of Corning. Just after 2 p.m. Tuesday the swimmer reportedly began to struggle and went under water and never reemerged.
Sheriff's deputies are looking into leads as to the swimmers identity, but confirmation will not be made until a body is recovered.
Due to the swift current, debris in the river, uncertainty of the location of the swimmer, no divers will be sent into the river. Sheriff's deputies will continue monitoring the area Thursday.
Investigators say there is no evidence indicating the incident is anything but an accidental drowning.
