Earlier this evening, the Butte County District Attorney's Office released new information regarding the officer involved shooting following a fatal accident early Thursday morning.

The district attorney's office released the name of the officer involved as Patrick Feaster a five-year veteran of the paradise police department.

Feaster was parked on Skyway shortly after midnight Thursday, when he observed a Toyota Four-Runner speeding out of the Canteena Bar parking lot on Skyway.

The Toyota sped through a red light turning onto Pearson where shortly later the car struck the median and flipped, ejecting 23-year old Darien Ehorn out of the vehicle. Feaster arrived on scene and saw 26-year old andrew thomas exiting the vehicle.

According to District Attorney Mike Ramsey, Feaster drew his firearm thinking Thomas would flee when the sidearm discharged and struck Thomas in the neck.

Preliminary results of the investigation have found that the firing of Feaster's weapon was a result of an accidental discharge.

Ramsey said the investigation is still ongoing and Thomas will face a charge of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

Feaster is currently on administrative leave.
