Fish and Wildlife officials say there are several diseases going through the local deer population, and authorities are advising people to stand back when they see a deer in distress.

The Paradise Police Department says wildlife officials recently alerted them to diseases found in Butte County’s deer population. One of the diseases causes foaming at the mouth and awkward movements.

Authorities are asking anyone who sees a deer showing signs of illness to not intervene and let nature take its course.

Calls to Fish and Wildlife were not immediately returned.
