MANILA, Philippines (AP) - A prosecutor in the Philippines says a detained U.S. Marine has been charged with killing a Filipino woman described as transgender.

The prosecutor says there's "probable cause" that Marine Pfc. Joseph Scott Pemberton killed Jennifer Laude in a motel room where her body was found in October in a city northwest of Manila.

Laude, whose former name was Jeffrey, had apparently been drowned in a toilet bowl.
