After Monday night’s planning commission special meeting, Paradise is one step closer to banning the cultivation, delivery, and distribution of medical marijuana in town limits.

According to the Paradise Community Development Director Craig Baker, people who came out to the public hearing were overwhelmingly against the proposal. Baker says of approximately 90 community members who came to the meeting, 30 of them spoke with just five expressing support for the stricter medical marijuana rules.

The Paradise Planning Commission voted three to two to adopt the ordinance.

Commission members voted as follows:

Chairman James Clarkson: No

Vice Chairman Martin Nichols: Yes

Commissioner Raymond Groom: Yes

Commissioner Stephanie Neumann: Yes

Commissioner Anita Towslee: No

The recommendation now heads to the town council where they will vote on the matter. A specific date has not yet been set.
