State hiring requirements have made it tough for Cal Fire to staff the Sawmill Peak Look Out Tower this year.
The tower, which looks out over Paradise, Magalia, and Concow ,is usually staffed by July 1, but new state hiring guidelines have created a specific classification for hiring guidelines.
With the extremely dry weather recently, the loss of a lookout is a great cause for concern, but officials say they expect to have the position filled by August 1.
The Sawmill Peak Look Out is funded by "Friends of the Sawmill Peak Lookout Group", the organization says they have the money to pay employees, the issue right now is strictly with the hiring process.
Until a crew is hired to man the tower, Cal Fire is encouraging locals to pick up the slack. Anyone who sees a possible fire should call 9-1-1 right away.
