CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) - Ventura County sheriff's officials say a deputy has been struck by a car and killed during a freeway traffic stop.
KABC-TV reports the deputy pulled a vehicle over around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on U.S. 101 in Camarillo.
He was struck by another vehicle, which sped off and eventually crashed. KABC says the 25-year-old driver was captured and arrested on suspicion of driving drunk.
Officials say the 41-year-old deputy was declared dead at the scene. His name has not been released but he is described as an 11-year department veteran.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
