The Redding Police Department and the Shasta County Sheriff's Office have released the names of the two deputies involved in last week's fatal officer-involved shooting.

According to a news release from the Redding Police Department, Sergeant Rob Sandbloom and Deputy Gerry Maul were dispatched to the 2000 block of Fig Tree Lane, just south of the Redding airport, around 8 p.m. August 29 for reports of a suicidal subject.

When the deputies arrived they found 32-year-old Erik Charles Lebak, of Redding, armed with a shotgun and a handgun. Lebak fired the shotgun in close proximity to the two deputies, and the deputies returned fire, hitting and killing Lebak.

At this time, both Sergeant Sandbloom and Deputy Maul are on paid administrative leave. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Redding Police Department Investigations Division at (530)225-4214.
