Authorities have arrested a woman wanted for allegedly using a stolen ID to cash counterfeit checks at two Redding businesses late last year.
Shasta County sheriff's deputies made the arrest after contacting a woman near Cowgill Lane in Redding Wednesday. Deputies realized while speaking to the woman that she was the suspect from surveillance photos released by the Redding Police Department on Monday.
The woman was identified as Rebecca Ann Wood, 37, of Redding. She had dyed her hair red since cashing the counterfeit checks.
Police say Wood cashed counterfeit checks at Lowe's Hardware on East Cypress Avenue and Work World on Dana Drive on November 25 of last year. During the alleged crimes Wood used a driver's license that had been taken during an October car burglary.
Wood was booked into the Shasta County Jail on an identity theft charge and investigators say additional charges will likely by sought as the investigation progresses.
